Reach out and Skype Someone

No matter where you are traveling to it’s always a good idea to check in with folks at home so they know you have arrived safely at your destination.  Depending on where you are traveling a quick phone call can end up costing you a fortune, and while email is great nothing is as reassuring to friends and family as hearing your voice, especially when you are on the other side of the world.    Skype makes keeping in touch affordableFREE!! It’s also very easy.  If you don’t know what Skype is, it’s a free instant messaging software that also allows you to make phone calls from your computer for free.  It only takes a few seconds to download and is very user friendly.  You might worry that you won’t get a clear connection.  I can tell you that from my personal experience this is not the case.  My husband has family in Indonesia and recently some of our relatives went to visit.  When they arrived they used Skype to call me (in upstate NY) on my cell phone to let us know they had arrived safely.   While they did sound a little distant and there was a very slight delay, I could hear them perfectly clear and they had no trouble hearing me.  I would definitley reccomend Skype as a way to keep in touch while on the road.
