For many people, the ideal vacation involves warm temperatures, sunshine, sand, and, perhaps, a private island. Peter Island, the largest of the private islands found in the British Virgin Islands, features six bays, twenty secluded coves and shoreline that touches both the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.  Idyllic beach scenes are, of course, part of the scenery.  But there are other attractions on Peter as well: lush forests with hiking trails and plenty of surfing, sailing and SCUBA opportunities offshore.

Vintner's Dinner

Vintner's Dinner

Peter Island Resort and Spa is now offering a Holiday Wine and Dine Package that puts the “private island” experience within reach of average travelers.  The fifth night of the vacation is free: that’s a five day vacation for the price of a four day getaway. The package includes a “vintner’s dinner” at the Wine Room, an on-resort eatery with over 300 selections of wine.  Two beach-side meals are also included.

Peter Island features scenic spots like White Bay’s Beach, which offers privacy and views of Norman Island and St. John Islands.  Deadman’s Bay boasts the island’s largest beach and waters calm enough for water-sports like snorkeling, windsurfing and sailing. Honeymoon Beach features nothing more than two lounge chairs and a single thatched hut.

The Peter Island Resort has several options when it comes to accommodations. Ocean View rooms offer, of course, views of the beach and water, as well as easy access to the resort’s pool and marina. The Beach Front Junior Suite includes a patio or balcony that overlooks Deadman’s Bay. The resort’s large villas include a private chef and driver.

The 5th Night Free promotion offered by the Peter Island Resort is one of the better options for luxury Caribbean getaway deals this holiday season.

50% off Wyndham Rio Mar Resort in Puerto Rico

It might seem like the only way to afford a four-day winter Caribbean vacation is to rob a bank, sell your car or mortgage your house.  Sure, wintertime prices in the Caribbean are high, but, especially this year, there are deals that can make a trip significantly cheaper.

The Rio Mar Resort and Spa, run by the well-known Wyndham group, is offering a vacation stimulus package that is … stimulating.  Purchase two nights at regular price and receive two additional nights free.  That’s a four-day holiday for the price of a quick weekend excursion.  The deal also includes $100 in resort credit (good for food and drink at resort restaurants and bars).

The Wyndham name means that the Rio Mar is no two-star resort wannabe trying to drum up business with an attention-getting 50% off sale.  The ocean-front location and proximity to the El Yunque Caribbean National Forest gives guests great views no matter where their room is located.  Private balconies make it even easier to appreciate the surroundings.

Aside from the spa, there are six restaurants, four bars, two golf courses and a host of other on-site attractions, including a casino.

A stay at the Rio Mar does not come cheap.  Rates start at $305 per night.  These prices last until December 24th.  However, the buy-two-nights-get-two-nights deal makes the overall price just over $150 per night for a four night stay.  That’s not bad for an upscale resort on Puerto Rico’s East Coast.

Reserve early to avoid the high-season price hike that goes into effect on Christmas Day.

Free Nights and Resort Credits in Florida

Hey Art lovers out there, it’s time to marry your love of creative expression with the beach! This may not be the first thing that comes to mind but this year, you have no excuse to not experience the “best show on H2O.”

The Winterfest Boat Parade has been held in Fort Lauderdale, FL annually for nearly forty years and is the largest, one-day, live audience event in Florida. What you’ll witness is 12 miles of of boats that local artists turned into “canvases of color and lights.” This year, the event will be held on December 12th.

If you’re looking for a place to stay near the parade, the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa has a special available from November 19th through January 12th, 2010. Guests that spend two nights will receive the third night free and $100 resort credit per stay; guests that spend three nights will receive the fourth night free and $200 resort credit per stay.  Holiday travelers can take advantage of the newly-renovated Spa at Harbor Beach or indulge in the award-winning, local favorite 3030 Ocean – a local culinary favorite.

On the West Coast, the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort is a golf-lovers paradise with the Unlimited Rounds Retreat package. Through December 25th, golf enthusiasts will get guestroom accommodations, unlimited golf for two people at The Rookery – including a cart – and daily breakfast for under $300 a night. Also, you will receive free bag storage, bag tags, range balls and a locker at The Club at The Rookery.

Ladies, while your man is perfecting his swing, swing on over to the spa at the Marco Island Marriot Beach Resort. They offer the “Passport to Paradise,” a booklet with little discounts such as 50% off recreation, 20% off at the spa as well as dining and shopping discounts. Each discount you use earns you a stamp and five stamps will earn you a $100 resort credit.

If you’re ready for one of South Florida’s hot spots, the Doral Golf Resort & Spa near Miami has the Escape Your Way Golf or Spa package. These packages include overnight accommodations, daily breakfast and a daily choice of golf or spa.

For the golfers of the group, the package includes your choice of several different golf courses with unlimited use of the driving range and introductory golf clinic.

The “spa-istas” of the group will have a choice between massages, wraps and facials. Massage choices include Swedish, Rewind Aromotherapy, Reflexology or Evolve Massage Sampler. Wraps are restorative and meant to “gently cleanse, re-mineralize and detoxify” your skin. There’s alse the “Drench” wrap which is an aromatherapy wrap that is applied warm. Facials include a clinical peel, a deep cleansing mask or a hydrating facial.

I wouldn’t mind following up a day on the green with some delicious cocktails and a day of pampering at the spa. With these packages, I could definitely do that and not break the bank.

All the Sun, Half the Price at West Palm Beach Hotel

It is easy to predict chilly weather.  By mid-November, heavy jackets have become part of your daily apparel and you start to wish you’d planned ahead and booked a vacation to someplace tropical – Florida would be nice -  before all the hotels doubled  their prices for the high season.

Would-be snowbirds willing to search the entire Gold Coast (from Miami to West Palm Beach)  will still be able to find money-saving opportunities.  West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale are good alternatives to the more pricey destinations closer to Miami.

The West Palm Beach Marriott has an exceptional deal that will make it possible for frugal snowbirds to get some high-season sun and low season prices.  The resort-like hotel’s rates will stay at $77-$99 per night until December 26th, with no blackout days during Thanksgiving and Christmas.  These rates are 50% lower than the Marriott’s regular high-season prices.

The Downtown West Palm Beach Marriot’s greatest asset is its location.  It is within walking distance of the popular CityPlace shopping, restaurant and nightlife promenade.  There are several spas, salons and restaurants within a mile of the hotel, making it possible for guests to put together their own “resort experience” without having to pay resort prices.

Bistro Ten Zero One, the Marriot’s in-house eatery, offers modern seafood-based cuisine in a casually classy setting.  The restaurant includes a full bar and free wireless internet access.

The combination of amenities, location and price (as well as the fact that Christmas and Thanksgiving are not black-out dates) make the Downtown West Palm Beach Marriot’s $77-$99 deal one of Florida’s best early season values.
